Together we can all do more

At the Education Foundation, we have a single, unwavering focus: helping Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools (WSFCS) students succeed. The Education Foundation for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools connects our community’s resources, expertise, and commitment with the needs and priorities of public education. Our mission is to strengthen WSFCS by building partnerships to ensure our investment aligns with our community’s aspirations and those for every child.

We believe strong public schools are essential to a strong community and that improving educational outcomes is a shared responsibility. As an independent community-based nonprofit, the Education Foundation serves as a bridge between WSFCS and the broader community, bringing together businesses, foundations, civic organizations, educators, families, and community leaders around shared goals for students.

Today, the Foundation is evolving from emergency response to long-term strategic leadership. As a bridge and an advocate, we are laying the groundwork for a stronger future where every WSFCS student can succeed.

A central focus of this work is investing in three of the drivers of student success: excellent teaching, exceptional school leadership, and evidence-based instruction.

Exciting News!

The Education Foundation is partnering with The Junior League of Winston-Salem in our new grant cycle! The JLWS will begin funding a grant in each cycle. We couldn’t be more grateful for their support of WS/FCS and their collaboration in funding grants for our schools, staff, and students.

The Junior League of Winston-Salem’s LEEF mini-grants program launched in 2023 as a community gift in honor of the JLWS centennial. Its purpose is to financially support individual teachers and schools within the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System on projects and programs that align with the JLWS’s community focus areas of children’s literacy, educating and mentoring youth, and improving family health outcomes.
